Govind Nihalani the famous filmmaker, cinematographer, screenwriter as well as a film producer has been directing Bollywood movies since the late 1970’s as records suggests. The filmmaker hails from Karachi, Sindh region in 1940 and his relatives shifted to India during the partition of 1947. The director started his career as a cinematographer and got graduated in cinematography from the Shree Jaya Chamrajendra polytechnic in Bangalore in 1962. The filmmaker was an Assistant Cinematographer to the renowned V. K. Murthy. Govind was connected with all the past flicks of Shyam Benegal and with the cinematography of Richard Attenborough's Oscar-winning classic Gandhi.
Both Govind Nihalani and Shyam Benegal are well known for their socially germane projectsGovind Nihalani’s initial directorial film was Aakrosh that featured veteran actors Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, the late Smita Patil and the late Amrish Puri. Govind’s another venture Ardh Satya, was formed on a tale written by S.D. Panwalkar, that is remembered by film aficionados till date.
