Kunal Kohli

Kunal Kohli, the Bollywood filmmaker hails from Mumbai and started out as a movie critic in the late nineties and hosted the show ‘Chalo Cinema’ on Zee TV. Kunal Kohli also directed some music videos like Bally Sagoo's 'Mera Laung Gawacha', Bali Brahmabhatt's 'Tere Bin Jeena Nahin', Shiamak Davar's 'Jaane Kisne', Hema Sardesai's 'Bole Humse Kuch Na Gori' and Rajshri Music's 'Yeh Hai Prem', a song for Alisha Chinoy with Milind Soman.

This Bollywood director directed about twenty-four Music Videos before giving up video and TV for flicks. He also judged the popular TV show Nach Baliye's Season 2 for Star Plus in 2005. Kunal started his production house named Kunal Kohli Productions in 2007 to make movies for himself and launch new directors too, the first film that was made was “Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic” which was released in 2008. Kunal Kohli directed four movies for Yash Raj Films owned by ace filmmaker and producer Yash Chopra. Mujhse Dosti Karoge! (2002). After two years he came back with his second project Hum Tum (2004), the movie was one of the biggest hits of 2004 and established him as a known director. And 2006 release film Fanaa. The film won five Filmfare awards including Best Director for Kunal Kohli.

Kunal ropes in Shahid for his next

For days, it was just a guesswork that Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor is being approached by director Kunal Kohli for his next. Now, it’s no more a rumor as the filmmaker, who turned producer with his recent release ‘Break Ke Baad’, confirmed the news on his Twitter page on Sunday that Shahid would be doing a film with him.

Kunal KohliKunal Kohli tweeted that, “Shahid Kapoor and me working together in my next film. I’m really looking forward to working with Shahid.” Kunal also stated that since Shahid Kapoor is currently stucked up with the shooting of his father’s directorial debut film ‘Mausam’, he has decided to start shooting for his yet-to-be-titled flick sometime in April 2011 as the actor is expected to be free then. The director wants to rope in Priyanka Chopra to play the lead role in the film. When asked Shahid about working with Kunal he said that he too is excitedly looking forward to the day when he will start working with the talented filmmaker.

Akshay says no to Kunal Kohli

Kunal Kohli made four movies for Yash Raj Films owned by famed director and producer Yash Chopra. His first film under the Yash Raj banner was 2002 release Mujhse Dosti Karoge! Than followed Hum Tum, Fanaa, Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic.

Akshay Kumar has reportedly has rejected to be a part of Bollywood film director Kunal Kohli's new project, contrary to earlier claims by the director.

Kunal Kohli, who is best known for directing 2004 hit Hum Tum, had previously stated that Akshay Kumar would star in his as-yet-untitled romantic comedy but will now have to start his search again.

It is said that when Akshay read the script in totality, he found many loopholes. That’s when his interest started waning. Akshay Kumar will next be seen opposite John Abraham in Blue.

Kunal Kohli, bollywood director

Kunal Kohli is a bollywood director with just four movies in his kitty to talk about yet because of his association with Yash Raj Films, he has become famous. His debut film under the Yash Raj banner was Mujhse Dosti Karoge! (2002) which did not fare too well at the box office. The film starred Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor.

His second venture Hum Tum (2004) was one of the biggest hits of 2004 and established him as a known director. The film won five Filmfare awards including Best Director for Kohli. He won against his own mentor Yash Chopra who was nominated for Veer-Zaara.

His film Fanaa, starred Aamir Khan and Kajol who made her comeback after a four year break from the industry and earned her a Filmfare Best Actress award. The film was released in May 2006. Fanaa became one of the biggest hits of all time. This film was found controversial, and was banned in the state of Gujarat due to protests against the lead actor Aamir Khan.


He also directed some music videos, Bally Sagoo's 'Mera Laung Gawacha', Bali Brahmabhatt's 'Tere Bin Jeena Nahin', Shiamak Davar's 'Jaane Kisne', Hema Sardesai's 'Bole Humse Kuch Na Gori' and Rajshri Music's 'Yeh Hai Prem', a song for Alisha Chinoy with Milind Soman.

He started his production house Kunal Kohli Productions in 2007 to make films for himself and launch new directors too. He wrote, directed and co-produced Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, starring Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Rishi Kapoor and Amisha Patel that was not received well at the box-office and did not meet with the success of Hum Tum and Fanaa. He has also considered Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor for his next film.

He has also scripted the films he has directed, all on his own.
