Debutant director of Bollywood industry Rensil D'Silva's upcoming romantic flick Kurbaan is said to be longer than the show-timing which multiplexes approve. Rensil D'Silva's film is called to be formidable and lengthy.

Kunal Kohli made four movies for Yash Raj Films owned by famed director and producer Yash Chopra. His first film under the Yash Raj banner was 2002 release Mujhse Dosti Karoge! Than followed Hum Tum, Fanaa, Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic.




Akshay Kumar has reportedly has rejected to be a part of Bollywood film director Kunal Kohli's new project, contrary to earlier claims by the director.

Kunal Kohli, who is best known for directing 2004 hit Hum Tum, had previously stated that Akshay Kumar would star in his as-yet-untitled romantic comedy but will now have to start his search again.

It is said that when Akshay read the script in totality, he found many loopholes. That’s when his interest started waning. Akshay Kumar will next be seen opposite John Abraham in Blue.

One fact emerged out of blue is that RGV contributed in the Sri Lankan movie,The Road From Elephant Pass, which has been chosen for best foreign film category. The director of the movie Chandran Rutnam has got high words for him and also ran a 'Thank You Mr Ram Gopal Verma' credit.

His next story which no one knew about him is that he has been a big fan of Shatrugan Sinha for the longest time. Shatrugan said,"He (Ramu) said he enjoyed my films from his college days when he saw Kala Patthar. It's providential that Ram and Shatrughan are coming together." Ramu has offered him 'Rakta Charitra' , a Hindi-Telugu bio-pic in which he will play role of Telugu Desam' party-chief N. T. Rama Rao who was also the chief-minister of Andhra Pradesh.


Controversies never end in bollywood and this time this director has beeen roped. The movie 'Shabri' which has been directed by Lalit Mrathe under RGV banner has been stuck for past three years. Marathe is miffed with this fact, however RGV claims that the film is in post production stage. Therefore to vent out his felings Marathe has started a campaign on facebook and garnering support for his cause.

Govind Nihalani Biography

Govind Nihalani is one of Indian cinema's foremost directors,cinematographer, and also a screenwriter and film producer who was born on 19 August, 1940. He has been directing Hindi films since the late 70's, and worked in the television medium.Nihalani like mentor Benegal is well known for their socially relevant and diligent films.




He started out as a cinematographer. He was associated with all the earlier films of Shyam Benegal and with the cinematography of Richard Attenborough's Oscar-winning epic Gandhi.

His first directorial venture was Aakrosh starring Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, the late Smita Patil and the late Amrish Puri. This was based on a real story which was converted into a film script by the eminent Marathi playwright Vijay Tendulkar and it made a huge impact on audiences all over India. It shared the Golden Peacock for best film at the International Film Festival of India held in New Delhi in 1981.

His film Ardh Satya, based on a story by Dilip Chitre, is still remembered by film lovers. It changed forever the way in which Indian cinema portrayed the police and it exposed in stark detail the police-politician-criminal nexus.

Come 1997, and he adapted Bengali novelist, Mahasweta Devi's acclaimed novel by the same name to Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa.

Over the years he has directed many films which are known for the manner in which they grab the viewer's attention, and his most recent work is the 2004 film Dev.

Shaad Ali Sehgal Biography

Shaad Ali Sehgal, the renouned name of a bollywood director, is the son of Muzaffar Ali (a noted film producer and director) and Subhashini Ali Sehgal (an Indian politician and a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)) and grandson of Azad Hind Fauj commander Lakshmi Sahgal. He completed his school education at Welham Boys' School, Lucknow.




Ali started his career as an assistant director to Mani Ratnam, and assisted him on the film Dil Se (1998).

He made his directorial debut under Yash Raj Films, with Saathiya (2002), starring Rani Mukerji. The film was a remake of Mani Ratnam's Tamil film Alaipayuthey (2000). Saathiya's script was written by Ratnam. The film starring a newcomer Vivek Oberoi made great buisness and established Shaad Ali in the industry.

His second film was Bunty Aur Babli which for the first time brought together real-life father and son Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan alongside Rani Mukerji was one of the biggest hits of the year 2005.

Shaad Ali's third film released on 15 June, 2007. The film, titled Jhoom Barabar Jhoom starred Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Bobby Deol and Lara Dutta in leading roles but made no great impact and shattered on box-office.

As Director, he has directed some hugely successful and some average films like Saathiya (2002), Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007) and Aitraaz (2004) For Dil Se (1998) and Guru (2007), Shaad had donned the role of Assistant Director.

Kunal Kohli, bollywood director

Kunal Kohli is a bollywood director with just four movies in his kitty to talk about yet because of his association with Yash Raj Films, he has become famous. His debut film under the Yash Raj banner was Mujhse Dosti Karoge! (2002) which did not fare too well at the box office. The film starred Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor.

He also directed some music videos, Bally Sagoo's 'Mera Laung Gawacha', Bali Brahmabhatt's 'Tere Bin Jeena Nahin', Shiamak Davar's 'Jaane Kisne', Hema Sardesai's 'Bole Humse Kuch Na Gori' and Rajshri Music's 'Yeh Hai Prem', a song for Alisha Chinoy with Milind Soman.

He started his production house Kunal Kohli Productions in 2007 to make films for himself and launch new directors too. He wrote, directed and co-produced Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, starring Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Rishi Kapoor and Amisha Patel that was not received well at the box-office and did not meet with the success of Hum Tum and Fanaa. He has also considered Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor for his next film.

Mehboob Khan-Pioneer of Hindi Cinema

The pioneer of Hindi cinema Mehboob Khan is best known for directing Mother India in 1957, which won him the Filmfare Awards for Best Film and Best Director and was a nominee for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.




Mehboob Khan was born in Gujurat. When he came to Bombay he played supporting characters before directing his first film, Judgement of Allah in 1935. Directorial features like Aurat followed, with the studios Sagar Movietone and National Studios. Mehboob Studio courtyard was set-up by him in 1954.

Throughout his career, Mehboob Khan produced and directed many blockbuster notable films like Andaz (1949), the swashbuckling Aan (1951), the dramatic Amar and the social epic Mother India (1957), the latter of which was nominated for an Academy Award in 1957.

He has directed 21 other films dating from the late 1930s. His last film as a director was the 1962 film Son of India. He died two years later at the age of 57. Mehboob Khan was so much influenced by Hollywood films that his films featured lavish sets in the style of the Hollywood era at that time.

Shyam Benegal Complete Film-maker

Shyam Benegal born 14 December, 1934, in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh is a prolific Indian director and screenwriter. With his first four feature films Ankur (1973), Nishant (1975) Manthan (1976) and Bhumika (1977) he created a new genre, which has now come to be called the "middle cinema" in India.

He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1976 and the Padma Bhushan in 1991. On 8 August 2007, he was awarded the highest award in Indian cinema for lifetime achievement, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2005. He has won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in
Hindi seven times.



It was in Hyderabad at age of twelve that he made his first film, on a camera given to him by his photographer father Sridhar B. Benegal. He received an M.A. in Economics, from Nizam College, Osmania University, Hyderabad. It was here that he formed the Hyderabad Film Society.Benegal is related to the famous film director and actor Guru Dutt. Shyam Benegal is married to Neera Benegal. He is also involved with the Mumbai based film school Whistling Woods International as chairman of the academic council.


He started his career working in 1959, as an advertising copywriter, at a Bombay-based advertising agency, Lintas Advertising, where he steadily rose to become a creative head. Meanwhile, he made his first documentary in Gujarati, Gher Betha Ganga in 1962.In 1963 he started a brief stint with another advertising agency called ASP (Advertising, Sales and Promotion). During his advertising years, he directed over 900 sponsored documentaries and advertisingfilms.

Between 1966 and 1973, Shyam also taught at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, and twice served as the institute's chairman, (1980-83) and (1989-92). By this time he already started making documentaries. One of his early documentaries. In all he has made over 70 documentary and short films.


After returning to Bombay, he received independent financing for his film and Ankur (The Seedling) was finally made in 1973. It was a story of economic and sexual exploitation from his home state, Andhra Pradesh, and Benegal instantly shot to fame. The film also introduced actors, Shabana Azmi and Anant Nag and won Shyam Benegal the 1975 National Film Award for Second Best Feature Film. Shabana Azmi won the National Film Award for Best Actress.

The success that New India Cinema enjoyed in the 1970s and early 1980s could largely be attributed to Shyam Benegal's quartet: Ankur (1973), Nishant (1975), Manthan (1976) and Bhumika (1977). Benegal used a variety of new actors mainly from the FTII and NSD like Shabana Azmi,Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Amrish Puri.


Unlike most New Cinema filmmakers, Benegal has had private backers for many of his films, and institutional backing for a few, including Manthan (National Diary Development Board), Susman (1987)(Handloom Co-operatives) and Yatra (1996) (Indian Railways).This gave him an added advantage, as he managed to survive the collapse of the New Cinema movement in the late 80s due to paucity of funding, with which were lost many neo-realist filmmakers. Benegal continued making films throughout the next two decades. He also served as the Director of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) from 1980 to 1986.

Following the success of these four films, Benegal was backed by film star Shashi Kapoor for whom he made Junoon (1978) and Kalyug (1981). The former is an interracial love story set amidst the turbulent period of the Indian Mutiny of 1857. Kalyug, was based on the Mahābhārata and was not a big hit although both of the films won Filmfare Best Movie Awards in 1980 and 1982 respectively.

Benegal's next film, Mandi (1983) was a satirical comedy about politics and prostitution, starring Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil. Later, working from his own story, based on the last days of Portuguese in Goa, in the early 1960s, Shyam explored human relationship in Trikaal (1985).

In the 1980s, however, with the collapse of the New Cinema movement, Benegal's films had not had proper releases. He turned to TV where he directed serials like Yatra (1986) for the Indian Railways, and one of the biggest projects undertaken on Indian Television, the 53-episode television serial based on Jawaharlal Nehru's book, Discovery of India (Bharat Ek Khoj) (1988).


The 90s saw Shyam Benegal making a trilogy on Indian Muslim women, starting with Mammo (1995), Sardari Begum (1996), and Zubeidaa (2001).With Zubeidaa, he entered the Bollywood mainstream for the first time, as it starred top Bollywood star Karishma Kapoor, and boasted music by A. R. Rahman.

In 1992, he made another film, Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda (Seventh Horse of the Sun) based on a novel by Dharmavir Bharati, which won the 1993 National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. In 1996 he made another film based on a book, The Making of the Mahatma, based on Fatima Meer's, The Apprenticeship of a Mahatma. This turn to biographical material, resulted in Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero, his 2005 English language film. He criticized the Indian caste system in Samar (1999). The movie went on to win the National Film Award for Best Film.Shyam Benegal also owns a production company called Sahyadri Films.


His latest film, entitled Welcome to Sajjanpur, stars Shreyas Talpade and Amrita Rao.The story revolves around the eponymous Chamki, a beautiful gypsy girl with a fiery temper and is written by Shama Zaidi. The music is by A. R. Rahman and the lyrics are written by Javed Akhtar.One of Benegal's future projects is a film based on Noor Inayat Khan - a descendant of Tipu Sultan, who served as a British-Indian spy during World War II.

Mahesh Bhatt wants Bharat Ratna award for Dilip Kumar

Famous director and film producer Mahesh Bhatt and film fraternity comes out to vote for urging the President of India to give Bharat Ratna award for Dilip Kumar.




Mahesh Bhatt informs, "It's the entire industry’s effort. From every region, stalwarts have come out to appeal for him. I was just a foot soldier. It is the Indian film industry’s effort, not an individual’s effort".

The other Bollywood actors who support the cause are Rajeev Khandelwal, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Mukul Dev, Varun Badola, Urvashi Dholakia and Randeep Hooda.
The director has churned out stories and screenplays for over twenty films, many of which were box-office successes, like Dushman, Raaz, Murder (2004), Gangster (2006) and lastly Woh Lamhe (2006), etc.

"Onir" documentaries to hindi films

Onir was born in Samchi, a small town in Bhutan on the 30th April, 1969. After his schooling in Bhutan he came to Kolkata(India) and graduated as a student of Comparative Literature from Jadavpur University in 1989. He joined the Film studies course at Chitrabani, Kolkatta.




In 1991 he co-directed his first documentary film at a work shop organized by Max Muller Bhavan and Chitrabani in Kolkatta. The documentary film was called "Glimpses of College Street". In the same year he was offered scholarship to train at an advanced editing course with SFB/TTC Berlin.

Returning from Berlin he made his first independent documentary (it was also produced by him). 'Fallen hero' (1992) was a documentary, which was a portrait of an aging painter Bijon Chaudry and his dilemma with the changing political scenario in Bengal.

In 1999, he got his first experience with the filmmaking. He was the film editor, song designer, and song director of the film "Daman" directed by Kalpana Lajmi. This is where he met Sanjay Suri. Sanjay's encouragement made Onir start working on his scripts.



Finally in 2004, Sanjay and Onir decided to produce Onir's first film "My brother Nikhil" which was to become the first main stream film that addressed the issue of homosexuality apart from dealing with issues of Human rights and HIV AIDS. Yash Raj released this film on 25th March, 2005.

The film fetched many international awards.

In 2006, he came out with his second feature film 'Bas Ek Pal' that had the cast of Juhi Chawla, Urmila Matondkar, Jimmy Sheirgill, Rehaan Engineer and Sanjay Suri.

His most recent work was 2008 film, 'Sorry Bhai!' featuring Shabana Azmi, Boman Irani, Sanjay Suri, Chitrangda and Sharman Joshi under the home production Anticlock Films Pvt. Ltd.

Madhur Bhandarkar's Jail was shoot in real jail

Bollywood director Madhur Bhandarkar’s next film Jail has been shot at a real jail. Madhur Bhandarkar said that every uniform has been stitched by inmates from the jail. The whole cast of the film is being dressed in real jail clothes.




Each and every uniform was constantly counted . It was especially frightening on outdoors where one of the cast would lay out his uniform to wear and then look anxiously over his shoulder every five seconds to check if it was there.

Ishaan Trivedi's Radio is 80 pc complete

Himesh Reshammiya's latest film titled Radio, which is being directed by Isshaan Trivedi, is now 80 per cent complete.

Radio is being produced by Ravi Agarwal and stars Reshammiya along with Shenaz Treasurywala. Reshammiya plays a radio jockey in the movie. Radio has been shot at different locations in Mumbai.

Presently, the cast and crew of the movie are shooting a song at Filmistan Studios in Mumbai. The film deals with modern day relationships and compatibility issues.

Rakesh Mehra's Delhi6 to be screened at Venice film festival this year

Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, whose Delhi-6 is going to be screened at the Venice film festival this year, has managed to do things his own way. The director has changed the climax of Delhi-6 for the international audience and decided to kill the character of Abhishek Bachchan in the end.

So for the time being, Junior B's fanswon't see the actor waking up from a dream instead, he would breathe his last after being attacked by the mob.

The new cut of the film has been created especially for a screening in Venice Film Festival where the film has been selected for the 'Out Of Competition' category. It is for the first time a film has to be reshot and re-edited post its release. The film, which released earlier this year did not get a good response in India. The film was also starred Sonam Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor.

Imran and Ranbir says no to Farah Khan

Choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan is ready to host a chat show, to be aired soon on national television. And she invited the dashing Jaane Tu Jaane Na fame Imran Khan and the Saawariya Ranbir Kapoor for an episode. But both the actors politely turned down the invitation.




There is no problem between these two young bright newcomers. Rather they are good friends. According to Imran Khan, who shares a great rapport with Ranbir Kapoor, they want to explore their chemistry in a special film they’ll do together.

Bollywood Director-B.R.Chopra

B.R. Chopra or Baldev Raj Chopra was born on 22 April 1914 in Ludhiana. B.R. Chopra was an Indian director and producer of Bollywood movies and television serials. Most known for Hindi social films like Naya Daur (1957), Kanoon (1961), Gumrah (1963) and Humraz (1967), plus the mega TV Series, Mahabharat in the late 1980s. He was awarded the highest award in Indian cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1998.




Baldev Raj Chopra started his career in 1938 as a film journalist with Cine Herald, a film-monthly published in Lahore, Chopra later took over the magazine and ran it until 1947 .

In the same year, B.R. Chopra launched a film with a story by I. S. Johar, Chandni Chowk. He later moved to Mumbai, where his first production, Karwat, began in 1948, though it turned out to be a flop. B.R. Chopra's first film as a director, Afsana, was released in 1951 and featured Ashok Kumar in a double role - the film was a hit and established his name in Bollywood industry.

Chopra made Chandni Chowk, with Meena Kumari as a lead, in 1954. In 1955, B.R. formed his own production house, B.R Films. His first movie for this production house was the highly successful Naya Daur (1957) starring Dilip Kumar and Vyjayantimala, the film became a golden jubilee hit.

In 1962 B.R. Chopra got the Filmfare Best Director Award for the film Kanoon. In the year 1998 he was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. For 2003, B.R.Chopra received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and before his death in the year 2008 he got the Phalke Ratna Award by the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy.

B.R. Chopra was instrumental in developing the career of singer Mahendra Kapoor, and employed Mahendra in most of his movies. B.R.'s foray into television led to Mahabharat, one of the most successful TV serials that made a mark in Indian television history. Baldev Raj Chopra died in Mumbai at the age of 94 on 5 November 2008.

Tanuja Chandra - Intel Film Maker

Tanuja Chandra, a woman Bollywood film director and writer is known for frequently directing woman-oriented films where the lead actress are the main protagonists.




Chandra began her career in 1995 and made her directorial debut with the TV series Zameen Aasmaan, starring Tanvi Azmi. In 1996, she directed another television serial along with Shabnam Sukhdev, called Mumkin.

She went on to collaborate often with Mahesh Bhatt and wrote the screenplay for his critically acclaimed picture, Zakhm (1998). She also made her cinematic directional debut with his Dushman in the same year. The movie, starring Kajol in the lead role, received critical praise and performed moderately well at the box office.In 1997, she wrote the screenplay for Yash Chopra Dil To Pagal Hai, which was a commercial success.

Her next film, Sangharsh (1999), was also produced by Mahesh Bhatt and starred Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta in pivotal roles. The movie failed at the box office.

Since then, Chandra has directed several films, many of which went unnoticed. Yet films like Sur (2002) and Film Star (2005), which were directed and written by Chandra, won favourable reviews from critics and received praise for her work as a director and writer.

Her most recent films was Zindaggi Rocks (2006), starring Sushmita Sen and Shiney Ahujao. Chandra also wrote the story and the screenplay for the film. Her other films went totally unnoticed. These were Hope and a Little Sugar (2008) and were shot entirely in English in USA.

She is the sister of famous writer Vikram Chandra.

David Dhawan on remake spree

Having tickled the funny bone of the audience with his comedies like Partne and NO.1 series like Hero No.1, Aunty No.1 and others, Bollywood director David Dhawan is now mulling an offer to direct the remake to 1981 cult hit Chashme Buddoor.

"I have been approached by Studio 18, who have the rights to the movie. Though nothing has been finalised yet, we are working on it," Dhawan informed. "Even if I agree to do this project, the movie will have a contemporary feel to it. I have to keep today's audience in mind. I am still thinking about this offer," he added.

One of the best remembered comedies of Hindi cinema, Chashme Buddoor was originally directed by multiple-award winning writer-director Sai Paranjpye.

Starring Farooq Shaikh, Deepti Naval, Saeed Jaffrey, Rakesh Bedi and Ravi Baswani, the 145-minute comedy etched itself in people's minds with its witty dialogues and characters.

Asked about his character preferences for the remake, Dhawan laughed off the matter in his trademark style.

Not just this, the director also revealed that he has been approached to make a remake of veteran filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherji's Chupke Chupke, which is also under talks though nothing has been finalised yet.

Rajkumar Hirani - Man Behind Munnabhai

Rajkumar Hirani is a National Award and Filmfare Award winning Indian ace filmmaker, screen-writer and film-producer of Hindi films, best known as the creator of the Munna Bhai series.

Biography of Vijay Aanand

Vijay Anand has carved in niche as a bollywood director and he is also the youngest of the four Anand siblings, including producer and director Chetan Anand and Dev Anand, a very popular Bollywood actor.

He hails from Punjab and was born there in a place Gurdaspur.

Though Vijay Anand has had a career as an actor, screenwriter, editor, and producer, he will primarily be remembered as a director. In 1957, he made his directorial debut with Nau Do Gyarah, which he shot in a span of 40 days.

Vijay Aanand's successful feat as director can be observed in these film names - Johny Mera Naam (1970), Jewel Thief (1967), Teesri Manzil (1966), Kala Bazar (1960), Ram Balram, Rajput. Teesri Manzil, which he made for producer Nasir Hussain, was his first non-Navketan film as a
director.

This was followed by Tere Ghar Ke Saamne (1963), Tere Mere Sapne (1971) and Guide (1965). Guide, starring Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman is Vijay Anand's most critically acclaimed movie. It is based on R.K. Narayan's novel The Guide. Navketan attempted an international release of a remake of Guide without much success.

Vijay Anand is known for his stylish song picturization, like `O Haseena' (Teesri Manzil), `Kaaton Se Keech' (Guide) and `Honthon Mein Aisi Baat' numbers (Jewel Thief)

As an actor, his most memorable roles were in films Haqeeqat (1964), Kora Kagaz (1974), in which he starred opposite Jaya Bachchan, and Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki (1978).

To the younger generation of the 1990s he is also known for playing detective Sam in the television series Tehkikaat (1994).

He served a short stint as the chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification, India's censor board, a position from which he resigned, in 2002.

Goldie as he was affectionately called died on 23 February 2004 due to a heart attack.

His son, Vaibhav Anand, has followed in his footsteps by becoming a film director.
