SLB and KJO share sour relationship

Ace filmmakers Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Karan Johar are both famous personalities and both are well-known for their unique prospects of filmmaking. For few days, both the directors had obvious argue over Karan Johar's comment in which when he called Saawariya a ‘blue flick’. A upset Karan Johar had commented about Sanjay Leela Bhansali publically that if someone chose to discuss to others inspite of calling him personally, then maybe that individual is not a buddy at all. Karan even mentioned that SLB almost certainly needs to learn to take himself flippantly for a change and not be so serious.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Karan Johar After this incident, both remained away from each other. Now another buzz is spreading that they have patched up again on the sets of a reality show. However, it is also revealed that Karan Johar came on the show and there he decided to give the winner of the music reality show a chance to sing in one of his future projects. Then Karan appreciated Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghosal and Sanjay Leela Bhansali and also called him one of the finest filmmakers of Bollywood industry. But Sanjay did not reacted at all to this and remained quiet.

But at the same time, Karan Johar is not the only reason that upsets Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Even once considered to be his most favourite star Salman Khan also upsets the director. SLB and Salman Khan too doesn’t share cordial relationship with one another now and they have parted ways since a long time. However, on the reality show X-Factor, the director is flaunting a more easy to get, temperate and cheering side of his. If these signs are true than Bhansali Saahab I think it’s the right time to resolve all the wars too!!

Karan makes fun of Sanjay Leela Bhansali

The release date of Karan Johar's released flick I Hate Luv Storys was round the corner and it is said that the director played by Samir Soni in the film depicts Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the real. Sami Soni does exactly the same what Sanjay does on the set.

Karan JoharKaran Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are close friends and both enjoyed making fun of each other. It is learnt that a lot of the scenes on the sets of the director’s film in ‘I Hate Luv Storys’ are taken from the way Sanjay presents himself on the sets."

In fact, Imran Khan’s character interacts with Samir the way actor Ranbir Kapoor did while assisting Sanjay in the movie Black.

Karan Johar becomes a taskmaster

Karan Johar who started his career at an early stage can well be called a taskmaster too. The director is very particular about his appearance and treatment of his movies. It was reported that Karan Johar wanted actor Imran Khan to look like a womaniser in his forthcoming film I Hate Luv Storys.

Karan Johar
Imran Khan was specially asked to work on his physique and body language. It seems like that Karan Johar is all for the male eye candy.

KJ at rift with RGV

Our bollywood directors aren’t far either from the controversies these days. The latest buzz is that Ram Gopal Varma and Karan Johar are at war. Their hatred was seen when Ram Gopal Varma remarked that the scariest film he had ever seen in his life was Karan Johar’s Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. .

Ram Gopal Varma and Karan Johar
A new story started off when Karan Johar mentioned that after seeing RGV’s recent release Phoonk 2, Karan is sure that Phoonk 3 will not be made.

One thing can be said for sure; that the two directors do not chop up words and know how to be sarcastic in speech at the same time!!!!!!!

I don't want to work with new comers says Karan Johar

In the first half of Karan Johar's conversation with Raja Sen, the filmmaker spoke about stepping out of his comfort zone, and being more honest as a filmmaker.

As the film-faffing continues, Johar discusses the problem of stars and image, the basic Bollywood screenwriting hurdle that should never change, and why he would never cast newcomers in his films.

Some of those are the way they are, and the way they will be. I think if I yank myself totally out of my zone, it might affect me. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have also composed music that is completely different: there is no lipsync song in My Name Is Khan, it's all background. And the music is not Western at all, barring the fact that it's somewhere fusion based. Also it's got different voices, people I haven't worked with.

When I spoke to Shah Rukh, I said 'look, it's very important that you play even this character as a mainstream hero,' because that's one call that I took commercially. I felt he had to be an endearing character, no matter what. So if that takes bringing about a certain level of 'cutiefying' at times, or toning down the disorder in areas but still maintaining a regular pitch, I think it's imperative.

We sent the script to the National Autistic Society, just to read the dialogues. Because there are a lot of things characters like Rizwan Khan don't say. They say things literally, so there are a lot of expressions they won't use. And then we sent the first bits of rushes to people, to see if we're doing okay. Because we needed to know. You see, it's such a varied disorder and there are so many strains of it, there's no one way of doing it. So one had to strike that balance between the projection of this character on mainstream celluloid and getting the facts right.

So, therefore, having Shah Rukh and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Sharmishtha [Roy, art director] and Manish [Malhotra, costume designer] and all the people I've worked with earlier were also important. But I think all of them have been challenged. I don't think they've done something like this. We're very far away from the release, and one can never be sure, but the feeling definitely was that we haven't done this before. So either we could have totally screwed it up or maybe got it right, so that's something that I don't know. At all.

My name is Khan is a serious film. No doubt about it. That's why it has a world of its own, its own beat. But I would say it's a drama, a quintessential drama which is definitely serious. There's nothing frivolous about it.

Karan Johar speaks about his new film My Name Is Khan. He says he is not comfortable working with newcomers that’s why he chose Shahrukh Khan and Kajol and Shankar-Ehsan-Loy for his film.

Karan appreciates Ayan

When Karan Johar appreciates the words come out and overflow. On this occasion when the movie 'Wake up Sid!' has reported an excellent opening, he is appreciating the director of the movie Ayan Mukherji.

Karan Johar

"Ayan has earned it all. Really, no one other than Ayan could have made this film. His story made me realize that we all have been Sids at some point in our younger days. We all have gone through that phase. We have thought like that. Pick up any family and you would find a Sid. It is this identifiable factor that had made Wake Up Sid click with audiences in a big way", says Karan Johar.

Earlier also Karan has given the opportunity of direction to first timers like Nikhil Advani (Kal Ho Na Ho), Soham Shah (Kaal) and Tarun Mansukhani (Dostana). He says that the first time directors cannot afford to be just talented and creative, they need more than that. According to him, they should be able to nurture good relationships with their cast and crew off set too.

Karan Johar sounds more like a management guru when he says, “See 80% part of a filmmaker's job is to handle people and their emotions. Once you are able to do that as a director, creativity automatically steps in. One should always possess people management skills; that makes the entire filmmaking process quite efficient."

Nostalgia struck "Karan Johar

Filmmaker Karan Johar is certainly nostalgia struck. Karan is often heard to get into nostalgia trips. His personal traits are indeed reflected in his films, which he directs or produce. We guess he will be remembered as one of the most successful directors of contemporarytimes off late.

Nostalgia struck

Last time, he was seen to get nostalgic about the title of his much-celebrated film titled Dostana because of the word dostana (friendship).

And this time yet again, Karan could not withhold his emotions on the celebration day of 50 years of completion of HR College, which incidentally has been his alma mater. Exclaims Karan, After wrapping up with loads of media interactions, "I took some time out to enjoy 50 years celebration of my college…HR College! The event at HR College was dignified and nostalgic. HR truly has emerged as the leading education power house".

Karan Johar is ready to release under his Dharma productions, a refreshing tale of a young and aimless guy in Wake up Sid starring Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma and directed by Ayan Mukerji. We will also see Kurbaan and My Name is Khan a little later, all his very ambitious projects that are truly anticipated.

Wonder, what in these films are going to make him nostalgic this time around?

Soham Shah - Out of KJo Shadows

Soham Shah mysteriously & abruptly disappeared after his debut film Kaal with Dharma Productions released. The film did no wonders on box-office and so was his camaraderie with the production house.

But Luck, his new film seems to have brought Soham Shah back. After his bitter parting from Dharma Productions and Karan Johar, he had to start his struggle all over again. A lot of people took advantage of the situation, considering the controversy that followed our split.

Something or the other would always go wrong at the last minute and eventually he was 'out of work' for almost four years, till Luck happened.

That Soham and Karan Johar had a bitter split is known to all and sundry, but according to Soham, it was a professional decision he took at that stage in life and he doesn't regret it one bit. Infact, he is still very much grateful and indebted to him.

His latest film Luck is Shree Ashtavinayak Production. Soham's association with them by luck only and through a common friend Rafi Kazi who introduced Soham to Rajbhai [Mehta], which he initially refused, since it had become difficult to judge who was fake and who wasn't. But after the very first meeting with Rajbhai, he felt some weight in his talks and that's how he went ahead with the film. Somewhere, he have to give maximum credit to Sanjay Dutt for making this work. He believed in him and supporting him wholeheartedly.

Luck stars A-listers like Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan, Mithun Chakrabarty and Danny Denzongpa. But what stands out is Ravi Kishan, who has been cast in a crucial role. This unusual choice was made by him after watching Big Boss and as yet he is very confident of it.

The talented director now has two more scripts being developed; one of them is meant for Sanjay Dutt's production house.

Well...his time has come with luck!!!

SRK a would be director

There can be the announcement of SRK's debut directorial venture anytime soon, if Karan Johar's instinct is to be believed.

KJO is all praise for King Khan saying that Khan's attention to detail and ability to empathize with different characters will enable him to make a smooth transition to a life behind the camera.

The director feels that SRK will do a good job as he understands human nature and emotions.

SRK is shooting for his film My Name is Khan currently.

But Karan, aren't you encouraging competition for yourself?

John's Nix & Arjun's Yes To Karan

The latest on Stepmom is that it's yet to be acquired for remake by Dharma Productions. Says Karan Johar, "The modalities for that are still being worked out. Until the contract is signed I wouldn't want to comment on it. Stepmom was released in the same year as my directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and I loved it. I look forward to developing it if the modalities are worked out. You of course know Kajol and Kareena Kapoor are expected to play the two roles."

In the meanwhile, the other Karan favourite Arjun Rampal who did a walk-on part in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna has agreed to step into Stepmom, if and when it gets made.

John Abraham reluctantly though but firmly has nixed to Karan Johar's offer to play the male lead in the Hindi version of Chris Columbus's Stepmom.

Recall that it was Karan who gave John a big break in Kaal a few years ago. And nobody can deny the recent Dharma dhamaka Dostana was a turning-point for John's career.

After Saif, then John was approached to play the lead opposite Kajol and Kareena Kapoor in the desi version of Stepmom. John almost agreed then opted out. Reason?

He didn't see himself doing much in a film that already started two powerhouse actresses, both natural-born scene stealers.

Karan had almost convinced John to do the role. He even promised that the husband's role in the Indian Stepmom would be far more substantial than what Ed Harris did in the original. But John is at a stage in his career where he wants to make all the right career moves. He feels, as
an outsider in the industry, he has made a place that must be respected.

John is finally learning to say no to projects even if they come from big banners and if he isn't convinced that he'd get proper performing space. In Dostana, he went along with the salespitch that Abhishek was the 'actor' while John was the 'body'. But in Dostana 2, John will
make sure he will be the actor and the body. He's working hard on it.

Karan Johar turns 37

Karan Johar turned 37 this year on May 25, 2009.

On the auspicious occasion, we will trace back his cinematic journey talking elaborately about his current work and projects.

The son of acclaimed producer Yash Johar, Karan, under his home banner Dharma Productions, has given the industry some of the top grossing romantic films of all time.

These days Karan is all set to bring back the hit jodi of all time SRK and Kajol after a span of 8 years in his upcoming directorial venture My Name is Khan. The director is also producing some much anticipated films such as Saif Ali Khan and Kareena starrer Qurbaan and Konkona
Sen’s and Ranbir Kapoor’s Wake Up Sid.

Karan belongs to commercial stream of cinema. As a kid also, Karan was influenced by commercial Indian cinema, and he cites Raj Kapoor, Yash Chopra and Sooraj R. Barjatya as his inspirations.

He made his acting debut in Aditya Chopra’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) in an inconspicious role. He soon realized that his true talent lay behind the camera and made his directorial debut with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani
Mukjerjee. The film became a cult classic among the masses and went on to bag 8 Filmfare awards, including Best Movie, Best Director, Best Actors and Supporting cast.

Karan has all the biggest hit films in his kitty like Kabhie Khushi Khabhi Gham (2001), Kal Ho Na Ho (2003) and Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna (2006) followed, all of which made a mighty presence at the box office. He banked on his two favourite actors and close friends Shah Rukh and Kajol as his lucky charms, but still managed to bring out great performances from actors such as Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Preity Zinta and Abhishek Bachchan.

For a long time, Karan was fixated with the letter ‘K’ due to his numerlogical beliefs, but after watching Lage Raho Munnabhai, Johar decided to stop this practice. He also successfully dabbled in TV, with his show Koffee with Karan, where he interviewed the biggest stars in the Industry in his very own style.

Here’s wishing the Karan Johar A Rocking birthday!

Karan Buys Rights of Stepmom

It seems like Bollywood is always ripping off Hollywood film ideas.
Whether it's a small subplot or the entire thing-there are always
elements from films that seem to be eerily similar to their Hollywood
counterparts.

karan

Director Karan Johar has reportedly bought the rights to the Hollywood
movie 'Stepmom' which starred Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts. The
movie follows the life of one woman who marries a man with children
and must deal with the ex-wife who is very much a part of the kids'
lives.

It is reported that Karan Johar will being filming the 'Stepmom'
remake after he is done with 'My Name is Khan'. The movie will be
directed by Siddharth Malhotra. The film is also going to bring Kajol
and Kareena Kapoor team up for a second time since their sisterly act
in 2001's 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham'.

Many Bollywood films that have been exact copies or very comparable to
Hollywood movies include, 'Meri Yaar Ki Shaadi' ('My Best Friend's
Wedding'), 'Ghajini' ('Memento'), 'Raaz' ('Ring 1' and 'Ring 2').

The Indian audiences accepted these films, will they do the same for
the Bollywood remake of "Stepmom"? I guess we will just have to wait
to find out.

So we want to know what our readers to think about Karan Johar
officially buying the rights to the Hollywood movie 'Stepmom'.Send in
your comments to us and let us know!!!
